Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
• Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master's level degree or equivalent
• Professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA or CA)
• Over 8 years of work experience in positions related to technical accounting requirements and issues
• Russian language skills a must

Additional Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

• Experience supervising or mentoring technical employees
• Experience leading projects of varying scope and complexity
• Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
• Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets
• Detail oriented and accurate
• Strong knowledge and experience in financial reporting capacity
• Previous financial reporting experience for a large public company (Canadian and US Market listed)

Reporting Relationship/Location:

• Directly reports to Director, Finance and Administration in Magadan, Far East Russia.
• Works closely with and indirectly reports to Control group at Corporate office in Toronto.
• Position is rotational and cross-shifts with Manager, Accounting.
• Position is based in Magadan, Far East Russia.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:

• Perform activities related to financial reporting for Russian operations:
  
  • Prepare comprehensive financial statements and management reports, interpreting statements and reports to Senior Management, and the Finance Committee of the Board, the Executive Director, and the Program Directors.
  • Independently handles financial reporting function for Russian operations
  • Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and/or external requests including Corporate office in Toronto
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams; influences others to achieve project goals often without direct authority
  • Contributes to the development of policies and practices related to financial reporting and implementation of internal controls
  • Contributes to development of company-wide standards, procedures, and policies and ensures compliance with industry and professional regulations in Russia
  • Keeps on top of trends related to financial reporting standards and incorporates this information into work assignments and approach
  • Provides financial / accounting support for special projects such as investigations, due diligence, improvements of business processes, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Ensures financial reporting projects are integrated with other business activities and that regional and functional interests are represented
  • Assigns tasks to direct reports, where required, and provides mentorship and guidance on complex or escalated issues
  • Participates in task forces related to area of expertise
  • Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
  • Demonstrates advanced level knowledge in external financial reporting and accounting
  • Other duties, as assigned
• To analyze financial and accounting information and prepare technical documents to support decision making:
  
  • Investigates, researches and analyzes financial and accounting information and issues
  • Prepares business cases regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
  • Prepares technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements
  • Provides input into budgets and operating plans and major capital expenditures in area of expertise
  • Acts as a continuous improvement agent within financial reporting and accounting; introduces new methodologies and tools to improve current practices
• To communicate information related to financial reporting and to mentor others:
  
  • Assists with training of accounting/finance staff and technical skill development
  • Provides information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies to key stakeholders
  • Recognized as an internal expert in area of expertise and troubleshoots unusual or complex issues

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity:

• Work is technical and advanced in its complexity and involves approaches or products requiring the interpretation of information and specialized advice. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgment and resourcefulness to interpret policy and methodologies in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible. Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Makes decisions governed by general policy. May direct the work of project teams and/or task forces and provide training and guidance to entry level professionals.
